Musee d’Orsay. Paris. View of the central aisle with its sculptures.Designed by Victor Laloux, this turn of the century building was commissioned by the Orleans railway company to be its terminus in the heart of Paris. In 1986, 47 years after it closed, it re-opened as a museum. It was set up to present each of the arts of the period from 1848 to 1914 in the context of the contemporary society at the time. »

Eiffel Tower, Paris.Designed by the engineer Gustave Eiffel, the complex pattern of pig-iron girders came from th need to stabilize the tower in strong winds. Including the antennae it is 324m high.
